The Jakarta Symphony was began by a meeting of professional musicians who in the era of 70’s was member of a worldwide well-known orchestra, Orkes Simfoni Jakarta. The members were namely, Tony Suwandi, the late Embong Rahardjo, Suka Hardjana, Suwanto Suwandi, the late Sudomo, Nursyiwan Lesmana, the late F.X. Sutopo, Amir Katamsi and friends. Together with F. Kuswardianto, this former members re-unite and gave a new name to the legendary Orkes Simfoni Djakarta, into The Jakarta Symphony. Several other young talented musicians had joined, such as Juhad Ansyari, Didiek SSS, Bambang Suardi, Erfy Larasati, Yunus, Gatot Soebiono, Noor Syamsi, Prima Muchlisin, Asmoro, Anna Prapti, Budi Soewarno, Irma Manurung, Juzan and Rahmat, Ni Gusti A.K. Kadensi, and Gatut Santoso.
A number of works engraved by The Jakarta Symphony are:
A Symphony of Hope, a charity program held in order to collects funds to built Shekinah Charismatic Catholic Guiding and Education Center, in cooperation with the Shekinah Bina Insani Foundation. The first concert held at August 28, 2000 took place at the Grand Ballroom of Mulia Hotel, Jakarta. The Jakarta Symphony performed Symphony No. 40 in G minor (KV 550) a composition of Mozart, Concerto for Flute in D major, a work of F.J. Haydn and several compositions of Tchaikovsky, Gioacchino Antonio Rossini and Johann Strauss. The late greatest flutist of Indonesia, Embong Rahadjo, presented one of his best performance there.
In cooperation with Kua Etnika, The Jakarta Symphony performed an Opera at the Puncak Perayaan Sidang Agung KWI in 2002, at Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta. Kua Etnika is a theatrical group led by Jaduk Ferianto, and Teater Koma, under direction of N. Riantiarno. The Jakarta Symphony’s performed the Symphony No. 5 – composed by Beethoven – in front of H.E. Mr. Abdurrahman Wahid, President of Republic of Indonesia at that time, who gave a warm response to the show.
The Jakarta Symphony performed an orchestra in the frame of a Seminar: Musik untuk Meningkatkan Kecerdasan (Music to Increase Intelligence) in Gedung Yustinus, University of Atma Jaya in 2002. During the seminar, the orchestra played Le Quattro Stagioni concert, composed by Antonio Vivaldi, together with a violist Bagus Wiswakarma. The seminar was a form of cooperation with Atma Jaya Catholic University. The main purpose of the seminar is to increased public awareness to know classical music better as a mean of increasing intelligence.
Still in the frame of se Seminar entitled Musik Untuk Mengasah Hati (Music as a mean of sharpening inner self) held by Atma Jaya Catholic University in 2002, The Jakarta Symphony brought up works of F.J. Haydn and W. A Mozart, Divertimenti and other compositions in Rondo.
Charity Concert was held in Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. A good cooperation was built on this concert with the parish Maria Kusuma Karmel. The concert took place at May 23, 2003. The orchestra presented Mozart’s Missa Solemnis in C major K.337 Also performed in the concert, Aning Katamsi as a Soprano,Christopher Abimanyu as a Tenor, Luciana D Oendon at Alt, and Rainier Revireino at Bass.
Feel The Spirit Concert 2005, held on October 30, 2005at the Birawa Assembly Hall, Bidakara. The orchestra played compositions of John Rutter in Feel the Spirit, a few works of G.F. Handel, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Leonard Bernstein.

Night in Vienna, with conductor Carlo Zappa , August 2, 2007 at Hotel Mulia Senayan, Presented: Strauss, Schubert, Verdi, Puccini, Weber, Leoncavalo and Cardilo with sopran singer Monica Bozzo and tenor Giuseppe Bellanca from Milan.
